Maputo – The Ndlavela Health Center, in the municipality of Matola, hosted yesterday the official launch ceremony for the provision of Lenacapavir (LEN) administration services, an alternative drug for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Led by the Ministry of Health (MISAU), the event—which marks a significant step forward in Mozambique’s response to the HIV epidemic—brought together government representatives, local authorities, partners, health professionals, civil society organizations, and community members.

MOZAMBIQUE STRENGTHENS NATIONAL DIALOGUE TO INVEST IN THE HEALTHCARE WORKFORCE

Maputo – On Thursday 19 March, the National Dialogue on Policies and Investment in the Healthcare Workforce concluded in Maputo, bringing together policy-makers, cooperation partners, the private sector and professional bodies to discuss solutions to one of the main challenges facing the healthcare system: the shortage and uneven distribution of healthcare professionals.

Strengthened access and monitoring of clean water in Gaza Province following floods

Gaza, Mozambique – World Health Organization (WHO), with funding from ELMA, has purchased water disinfection and quality monitoring kits to support the response to flooding in Gaza Province.

The initiative aims to improve water quality testing, treatment, monitoring and surveillance, ensuring the supply of safe drinking water to communities affected by flooding, in a context of increased risk of waterborne diseases, including cholera.

Sustaining health services in Mozambique's Gaza Province after devastating floods

Xai Xai, Mozambique—As floodwaters recede across Gaza Province in southern Mozambique, recovery efforts are gaining momentum. Despite significant limitations in infrastructure, equipment and specialized services, health facilities that were damaged are progressively resuming operations to serve displaced communities returning to their areas of origin.

Intensifying emergency response to Mozambique flooding disaster

Maputo—Health authorities in Mozambique have intensified emergency response to assist hundreds of thousands of people devastated by severe flooding in the southern and central regions since mid-December 2025. 

The flooding has affected more than 720000 people, with 75% residing in Gaza Province. Around 100 000 people are being housed in 113 temporary accommodation centres in Gaza, Maputo, Sofala, Manica, Tete and Zambezia provinces, and Maputo City.
